The International Day for the Right to the Truth was marked in Nairobi with a
public forum that brought together survivors, civil society actors, and political
leaders to demand accountability for gross human rights violations linked to the
2007–2008 post-election
violence and recent cases of enforced disappearances.
Senator Edwin Sifuna delivered remarks from Raila Odinga, while Senator Okiya
Omtatah and victims’ counsel Willis Otieno spoke on the need for action.
Participants called for clear timelines on reparations, accountability for enforced
disappearances, and compliance with court decisions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Survivors and activists Bob Njagi, Jamil Longton, and Aslam Longton, known as the
Kitengela Three, attended alongside other survivors of human rights violations.
Discussions focused on delayed reparations, the unimplemented KShs. 10 billion
Restorative Justice Fund, inaction on the TJRC recommendations, and the status of
Petition 122 of 2013, where compensation awarded to survivors remains.
